Kitchen in San José Insurgentes
Mexico City
This outdoor kitchen was not only designed for cooking, but also for connecting. The central bar becomes the heart of the space: it organizes, directs, and gives character. It is the axis that structures circulation and at the same time invites sharing, conviviality, and enjoyment of the light and the surroundings.
The project masterfully articulates the transitions between interior and exterior, opting for an open architecture that erases physical boundaries to embrace the landscape. The materials—such as Dekton for work surfaces, steel for the structures, and wood for cladding and details—were selected not only for their resistance to intensive use and weather conditions, but also for the warmth and harmony they bring to the environment.
The ceiling of black metal beams and translucent panels filters natural light, generating a play of shadows that is projected as a changing texture on floors and walls. This architectural gesture not only protects but also elevates the spatial experience, giving the space an almost scenic atmosphere.
The design of the bar, clad in three-dimensional geometries, introduces a tactile and visual layer that enriches the project’s materiality. This is where the kitchen becomes a stage: the industrial-style stools, carefully arranged objects, and framed vegetation create a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.
More than a utilitarian space, this kitchen is a statement of intent: a place designed for gathering, where design becomes a vehicle for human connection, and where every element—from the selection of materials to the spatial configuration—dialogues with the surroundings, celebrating conviviality and shared enjoyment.
